Most of our readers are in the United States, which means that one topic is dominating our collective headspace this weekend — Tuesday’s presidential election.
As an American living abroad, I’m right there with you. And I’m joined by billions around the world who recognize that the magnitude of the U.S.’s global influence means that this election impacts their lives too.
If you’re itching to do something in these last few days before November 5th, I invite you to take action through the Environmental Voter Project, a non-profit dedicated to identifying inactive environmentalists and transforming them into consistent voters to build the power of the environmental movement. They have a list of ways to get out the vote in this final stretch, including phone banks with Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Amber Valetta.
Whichever way this goes, the week ahead is gearing up to be a heavy one. Take good care of yourselves, ok?

For the last few weeks of the COP16 United Nations Biodiversity Summit in Colombia, delegates have passed a massive block installation from Canadian artist Benjamin Von Wong that resembles… well, a game of Jenga. The art is intended as a metaphor, but a hopeful one. Says Von Wong: “Unlike a game of Jenga, which is a zero-sum game where you pull blocks out until the entire tower collapses, the game of biodiversity is one in which we can put blocks back in." I *love* the creative ways that musician Billie Eilish uses her platform to promote sustainable behavior change. The latest example? A call-to-action to concertgoers to take the Support and Feed pledge (founded by Eilish’s mum) to eat one plant-based meal each day for 30 days. “We like to say that people come for Billie, but they stay for the planet.” (5 minutes)
As with most debates over the weight-loss drug, the answer is complicated. Some point to Ozempic’s potential to lower carbon emissions by curbing appetites and reducing global food demand — but there’s danger in that simplification. “Much like the so-called ‘obesity epidemic,’ the climate crisis needs a scapegoat,” argues author Jake Hall. “What links these two issues is that individual people are blamed for systemic failures.” (7 minutes)
So your brand gets caught in the political crosshairs. McDonald’s internal memo responding to the Trump-Harris fervor has been widely shared and commended by crisis communications experts as “Olympian-level skills in navigating delicate middle ground”. (2 minutes)
